Berbice Wins World Cup :1983

This year, India will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1983 World Cup win.

Sandhu reckoned this game was a perfect example of team play.

We batted, bowled and fielded well.

In the World Cup, we always thought about what we did in Berbice.  8)

The victory gave Kapil Dev’s team the self belief to beat the all-conquering West Indies team

was achieved exactly today 30 years ago —

at the Albion Sports Complex in Berbice : 

a sugar area in Guyana populated with people of East Indian descent.

spearhead Michael Holding conceded 28 runs in his first four overs and the,

“West Indies bowling and fielding was unusually shoddy, Kapil having two chances,

and the Indians made merry.”  ;D

Sunil Gavaskar got India to a fiery start but was run out 10 short of what would have been

his maiden ODI century.... :-[

I ndia was the home team . The  Berbicians showed where their loyalties lie  and this goes for the majority of Indos in the Westindies
It was no surprise then when the west indies  consciously  decided  to go with an all Afro team and the rest is history.

No doubt the Indian team felt right at home Berbice much like the WI felt in those days in England.

Berbice made many great contributions, this was just a minor one!

[/quote] That was because Blacks were opressed in England at the time and the westindies cricket team shattered the myth of white superiority. 
The westindies team instilled pride in Black people  , a source of hope and possibilities for black people  everywhere
