Guyana have some serious topographical challenges that will take some doing and cost money to overcome...huge money. maybe! depending on how it is approached!
rivers and mountains, highlands...terrain challenges. Phew!
there is great hydro electric potential but damming rivers is atrociously expensive in this age...and it may not be necessary. solar power is getting very sophisticated and holds out much potential for a nation like Guyana... on the equator almost .
not only using the power but getting involved in research and development of the energy source itself.... solar energy. that could be dual advantage for BG...power and revenue earner, and industrial development.
if guyana is too small to develop agriculture that can service the needs of large markets...then BG an morph into cutting edge technologies in products that meet urgent needs currently..a agricultural health connection hit me right away..plants that produces naturally and in abundance that growingly have major significance in almost all areas of life....like coconut for example..then Cannabis and more..plus more to be found I am sure.
there is a great deal of research going on with coconut at the moment. a great many crucial uses are being found for chemicals in coconut especially in medicine for the difficult diseases. Guyana and the west indies..major coconut producers are nowhere in these developments. its not too late.
I see lots of potential, room for population growth and more wealth and developing ability to tackle the problems of development posed by Guyanas difficult terrain. Terrific country Guyana but faced with great developmental challenges
so if I want to get to Lethem from Georgetown at some point I have to cross the demerara river, drive to the Essequibo. take the Essequibo to some point up river adjacent to Lethem..and may still have to cross another river or 2 before I get there.

so one gets on a ferry up the Essequibo straight to Lethem?
In middle Passage Naipual went from Georgetown to Lethem, them onto Brasil and back to Georgetown..taking in Kaiteur Falls.
I have to read that book one more time..a distinct pleasure I look forward to..but I don't remember how much ferrying he did..or if he flew to Lethem... I don't remember at this point. one incident in his Guyana adventure that stands out from that book is Naipaul getting pissed looking for a cup of coffee his first Morning in Georgetown.
in a country full of locally grown coffee there was none on any menu he encountered. they had no coffee at all..only instant, NESCAFE! from england. reluctantly accepting the instant Nescafe Naipaul was appalled as the waitress poured the hot water into the cup and tapped the instant on top of the water :-[ :-[ :-[

oh man Naipaul was so funny when he wrote about the west indies. he lost it all entirely when he left the region as subject matter
so: from Georgetown, if you head west and north you get to what..the CUYUNI river region?
that's a large region with only the Cuyuni displayed on the map I have up. of course there may be many smaller yet formidable waterways in there, not displayed on the map
so what goes on in the Cuyuni region....what big towns are up in there?
so thats where JONESTOWN was.....in the northwest!
but theres is nothing in there..save for Buck colonies...and down on the atlantic coast same thing...a native town of Charity.
is the Atlantic coast easier down there than at Georgetown
I also see about 6 waterfalls on the Essequibo! abut 4 would impact any trade between Lethem and Georgetown how to get goods from Brasil to Georgetown them...how significant are those falls..can they be navigated?
