like beck, the majority of his listeners/viewers are there for entertainment. when they get tired of it, all he will have left is the miniscule minority of people who believe it.
In Michael Moore's documentary "Bowling for Columbine" he looks at the gun issue in the US vs Canada. He observes that there are just as many gun owners in Canada (per population ratio) as there are in the US. He then asks why then the amount of gun violence in Canada is so dramatically lower (per population ratio) than in the US? He concludes that "fear" is the root cause of the rampant gun violence in the US. The history of the US is one borne out of fear. Fear of the Native Indian, Fear of a slave revolt, Fear of communism and so on. Whereas in Canada, that history of fear doesn't exist and hence Canadians are far less likely to partake in mass shootings.
But that analysis misses the point completely. The difference in regards to guns between the two countries is one of legislation. The assault weapons used in the Columbine massacre are illegal here in Canada. You can't get them here, and if you could, it won't be that easy. In the movie, he shows a bunch of Canadians at a shooting gallery. What he doesn't tell you is that it is illegal for any of those people to carry those same guns outside that shooting gallery. It is illegal for Canadians to carry any gun in public (registered or not). That is the difference between the two countries. So in the end Moore proposed to tackle the so-called "root causes" of the gun violence instead of proposing the method which has demonstrated empirically that it works; legislation.
Canada doesn't have a second ammendment like the US. And the constuitutionalists are ready to bear arms to protect their rights. The Gun lovers are smitten by the constitutionalists. And the Gun lobby loves them all the more.
No easy solution here...especially when folks are being told that the government wants to disarm them. The killling goes unchecked, the rambling gets louder and society is at a loss as to how to combat this craze.
I can't for the life of me remember the last time American citizens were called upon to bear arms in order to overthrown a tyrannical government and/or President since 1776. Can anyone else remember? 8)

Alot of people say things that sounds good to make themselves feel better...the arguments state:
It takes a good guy with a gun to take out a bad guy with a gun.
Counter: There is no need for the good guy to have a gun since no 'guy' will be able to have a gun.
Look at Switzerland. That country does not have a standing army. Instead, the law requires citizens to form a militia and corresponding right to bear arms. Then look at their crime rate. One of the lowest per population in Europe. So why aren't the Swiss blowing of the heads of their fellow citizens in mass massacres? Legislation. The laws with respect to carrying guns in public are very restrictive and similar to gun laws here in Canada.
More guns means more crime. People who do crime usually use guns. There will be more fist fighting and less killing. I dont think there should be any guns allowed.
