Homicide bureau officers said yesterday they were working with their Guyanese counterparts in trying to locate the suspect wanted for last week's murder of Nikita Ramischand, daughter of attorney Odai Ramischand.
According to a Guyanese news website, the suspect reportedly left Trinidad last week Thursday night aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight bound for Guyana. The site also said that the suspect is currently hiding out in a heavily forested area known as Sosedyke, which is east of the Demerara River.
Nikita Ramischand, 18, was found with her throat slit and with three stab wounds to her chest last week Wednesday night at her family's sprawling Maracas Royal Road, Maracas Valley, St Joseph home.
Her brother, Sid Ramischand, told the Express earlier that his sister would often speak to the suspect but when he began asking for her hand in marriage she called off their relationship. It is alleged that the suspect stalked her and threatened her when he found out that she had started a relationship with someone else.
Up to press time yesterday, calls to two cellular telephones of Odai Ramischand proved futile.

This is according to Newsday, a Trinidad newspaper, which quoted the slain teen’s father as saying that the suspect telephoned the girl’s mother, Shariza, at around 19:00 hrs on Sunday and spoke with her for about 20 minutes.
According to the report, Sookram strongly denied involvement in Nikita Ramischand’s killing but added that he prefers to kill himself rather than surrender.
Kaieteur News was told that the suspect has made other calls to the victim’s mother.
Newsday also reported that the victim’s father, Trinidad-based attorney, Odai Ramischand, said that the fugitive was very emotional during the telephone conversation which was recorded by police.
“Where he is I know that he is suffering and not able to even get some water or food to eat. It won’t be long before he is apprehended and brought to justice,” Ramischand said.
Sookram, also called ‘Alan’, fled to Guyana shortly after he allegedly slit Nikita Ramischand’s throat and stabbed her several times at her Maracas, St Joseph home last Wednesday.
