Content Warning ⛔️ Her name was Pheona Premraji. She was 31. She deserved to live.
Pheona came from Guyana to the U.S. as a child. Her family remembers someone who kept showing up for the people she loved, who visited her father every week, who was making plans for next summer. She deserved that summer, and so much more ❤️?
On September 30, Pheona was found fatally stabbed in her Queens home. Reporting identifies her boyfriend as the suspected attacker. We hold her loved ones in our hearts and extend our deepest condolences.
We are grieving. We are furious. As Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins, let our grief and rage move us toward collective care and action.
Believe survivors. Stay connected without judgment. Help make safety possible through money, housing, childcare, and access to support.
Stop asking women to endure harm to keep families together. Stop protecting reputations at the expense of women’s lives.
Men: challenge control, entitlement, and misogyny in your circles. Hold each other accountable. Teach boys that love never means ownership.
For Pheona, and everyone impacted, let us build a world where women can live freely, safely, and fully.
