Throughout my lifetime, I have attended many funerals and has observed the changing trends that has taken place over the years.
I believe that when the Spirit (Life) leaves the body and goes back to God, you are dead. There is no life after death, therefore we need to make the most of our life whilst we are alive. Yet, I have observed the length to which many people go in disposing the body of the deceased. They borrow money, send out invitation on Social media in order to get a good attendance at the funeral (a show of popularity), and in many cases have an elaborate gathering (repast) after the funeral. This is particularly noticed in Caribbean and African communities: traditional practice that makes little or no economic sense.
