The NAACP issued a warning on Tuesday to black travelers based on “a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines.” According to the notice, the incidents “suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias” and booking flights on the airline could expose them to “disrespectful, discriminatory or unsafe conditions.” A spokeswoman for the company said American Airlines was “disappointed” to hear about the advisory. “Our team members—a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants—are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds,” she said. Representatives from the NAACP will plan to meet at the company’s Fort Worth, Texas headquarters after an invitation from American Airlines.
