Leicestershire welcome cricketer jail term after assault case is reopened

This is a pretty strange story, and this actually happened in my home town Manchester, so as been all over my newspaper.

What I and a lot of other people don't understand, is why did the judge take into consideration that he said he had a pro contract lined up anyway? Is he saying that if you're a professional cricketer, then you can get away with breaking the law? That's what it seems like.

Now it's come to light that he actually hasn't got a contract lined up, so they jailed him. He should have been jailed regardless in my opinion.
