Marlon Samuels' career ends here

So Samuels, who should not have been picked for this third and final test, makes a duck.

This may be his final game for the West Indies in all formats.

The PCL is likely to influence who takes his spot (WI's next test match is in 5 month's time). Vishal Singh will probably take it, providing he makes big runs. He needs to average really high, though, because the selectors have their eyes on two Bajans. He has to average in the 60s to ensure being picked.

The next concerns are Holder, Blackwood and Leon. Holder needs to move up the order or be dropped, and Blackwood needs to convert his starts or be dropped (notice he only makes more than 50 when he counterattacks and doesn't care).

Leon is the third new batsman in a row to fail in the opening spot. He needs to bat at 4 in the next innings as an experiment, with Holder opening.

Paint, like Gayle, looks doomed to never have a stable and familiar opening partner. He needs someone reliable fast.

I believe Samuels has been selected for the upcoming ODIs.

He should have been dropped at a least  a couple of years ago but who knows what goes on with these selectors.

I believe he has not even played domestic cricket for some time but, despite the rules, he is eligible for selection.

Holder is simply not good enough in any department and I think to suggest he opens is so preposterous, especially during a test match.

Holder's position in this team is untenable and brings the sammysyndrome question of balance but I do not expect him to be dropped anytime soon.

Maybe it is a good option to bat Leon at 4 but to do so means he needs to be given a few more games to reacclimatise in that position.

That squad need a veteran and Shiv was dropped.

So, Marlon gets to stay !

Braff is a youth: he emulates Shiv and buys in to occupy the crease.

But veteran, he is not !

He might as well be the veteran for his approach at the crease but does not have the technique of Shiv.

Despite Shivs ungainly approach at the crease he had an exceptional defensive technique.

However if one had to retain a veteran it is a no brainer.... had to be Shiv.
