Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson was seemingly stumped Thursday morning on a fundamental question about the Syrian civil war – a stumble that comes as he tries to make his case for being included in the upcoming presidential debates.

Asked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” what he would do about Aleppo -- the major Syrian city that has been a stronghold for opposition forces and under siege by Bashar Assad’s government -- Johnson responded: “And what is Aleppo?”

Journalist Mike Barnicle responded, “You’re kidding.”

Johnson said he was not, and Barnicle explained, “Aleppo is in Syria. … It’s the epicenter of the refugee crisis.”

“Okay, got it,” Johnson said, and went on to call Syria a “mess.”

Oh wow.  This is certainly not good for him and his supporters.  I do not expect the politicians to know everything under the sun, but this seems like something that is pretty important, and if I know what it is, then he should too.  I would say that anytime the interviewer asks the person "are you kidding?" then that means you are in some trouble.  It made for a good laugh, at least.
