India likely to play T20I series against West Indies in Florida

Sources say the WICB has agreed to host the BCCI in Florida as part of their campaign to make up for the West Indies team pulling out midway from their tour of India in 2014, an abandonment that cost the Indian board millions. It’s understood that the BCCI will take away a major revenue share from this short series as compensation for the loss incurred by them in 2014.

This is great news for the game of cricket overall as the more nations become aware of the popularity of cricket, the more teams there would be to compete. Cricket needs to create a global footprint like football and this is the first step towards it.

Hopefully the response on the american soil is encouraging for other future cricketing matches as well.

Seeing as Florida have just announced the first outbreak of the Zika virus and a lot of countries are warning people not to travel there unless absolutely necessary, I'm not sure that this would be the best time to play over there.

I know a lot of athletes are still taking apart in the Olympic games and we can't let a virus such as this rule what we do, but at the same time is it really worth taking the risk, and especially when I think the jury is still out on what impact a cricket match is actually going to have in the US anyway.

Two matches have now been officially confirmed to take place on August 27 and 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill.

The Central Broward Regional Park is the only ICC-certified ODI standard stadium facility in the USA and recently hosted six Caribbean Premier League matches between July 28 and 31. The ground has previously hosted four T20Is - in 2010, New Zealand played two matches against Sri Lanka, and returned in 2012 for two games against West Indies.
