Skip,

Not sure if you can read but I said he averages 40 in his 4 tests which is good by any standards but especially West Indian standards so why?

I am not an elector either.

Is it because the tour was followed by a domestic season where he was rubbish?

A question is a question and neither a statement of fact nor conclusion.

I do not see Leon as rubbish. He showed some flaws in SA but it was his 2nd, 3rd and 4th tests where he performed credibly.

So he should be given a run hence my confusion why he was left out for that year and not played against India when the opening position is an issue?

rhetorical in this case with your reputation of being Disingenuous.

we already note your thread title and view of 19 yr.old Guyanan "incompetent" Hetmeyer

rhe·tor·i·cal  adjective

or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.

Simple Definition of rhetoric

I am here to discuss cricket and I believe with Johnson's initial statistical record he should have been ahead of the queue.

Not sure what happened to fall out of favour with the selectors especially when the opening position is an issue.

I do not personally like his style but the numbers are just that.

Guyanans not welcome on the team courtesy of the BIM electors

I see Leon has been added to the squad!

Do you guys rate him?

His average is boosted by a single test against Bangladesh where he scored a 60+ and 40+ and whatever the opposition you still have to apply yourself.

After one test he had a sterner test against the Saffers away from home against Steyn, Philander, Morkel and Abbott!

He did not look great, to me but, at that early stage in his career you would expect a bedding in period and a bit of  a run.

He average almost 40 in his 4 tests which is good by any standards, particularly West Indian!

Why had this lad dropped off the radar and not selected since?

Is it because the tour was followed by a domestic season where he was rubbish?

Trini was kind of enough to provide some insights earlier in the week.

[quote author=TRINIDADDY link=topic=105430.msg705242#msg705242 date=1469481407]
He was pulled in to bat at 3 and take Bravo's spot when Bravo couldn't go to South Africa.

Then Bravo came back and Leon got bumped off.

He then failed domestically and the selectors put Blackwood on the team instead. Leon replied by doing well domestically this year, but Blackwood did well vs England also. Now, with Blackwood sucking domestically and internationally, and Leon failing in 4 successive warm up games, the selectors are torn between going back to Leon, or turning to the Bajans.

So there's a kind of logic to the confusion of the selectors.

Dilly,

That helps.

I usually spend a few months in the Caribbean around the cricket season  and tours but have not spent much time there in the last 3 years so slightly out of touch hence the question.

Thank to both you and Trini.

But there was a Guyanan Chairman of electors before!

Anyway my question was answered by Trini through Dilly....above.

Let us hope he gets a shot tomorrow and have a reasonable run to prove his worth.

So no Johnson!

Ah well the there would only be one Guyanan left standing....Bishoo and he too will be dispensed with back to Vivian's cry. Chandrika's days are numbered.

Shame but Blackwood justified his selection so it is only Samuels to make way and he will be selected until he decides to quit...

Hang in there Leon.
