Both Johnson and Chase had had a fine run in West Indies' regional first-class

tournament for 2015-16, though.

Johnson had topped the run charts (click) with 807 runs in 57.64, a key cog in

Guyana triumphant campaign, while Chase was fourth on the table,

with 710 at 59.16 for Barbados.

Vishal singh was ignored .

All things considered, this is a pretty decent 12-man squad. My only changes would have been Hope for Dowrich and Joseph for Gabriel - though the latter was never likely to happen.

Of what I have seen of Roston Chase I am a fan. He will likely serve as the second spinner behind Bishoo which is one way to lengthen the batting lineup.

The fact that Dowrich was given the gloves in the warm-up match suggested to me he was going to get the nod ahead of Hope.

Hope could have been selected to play as a batsman only - either in place of Samuels or Johnson. I do think that Johnson has earned his recall so that would have been harsh. Everyone knows my position on Samuels. I don't think he has any business being in this Test squad.

My best guess is that Johnson misses out for the first Test and we see the following.

K Brathwaite
Chandrika
Bravo
Samuels
Blackwood
Chase
Dowrich
Holder
C Brathwaite
Bishoo
Gabriel

That is certainly a much deeper looking batting lineup on paper.

Blackwood made a DUCK in the warm up

and is not on the top run getter list of the Regionals.

I didn't realise how bad Blackwood had been in the regionals - an average of 23.14 in 8 innings with just the 1 fifty. In that case, Johnson in and Blackwood missing out would make sense.

the side has already been picked Dillinger..the 12.  it comes down to which 2 of the 3 Samuels, Chase and Johnson.

I agree with you about Samuels in the test side.  I would drop him in a minute for any of the youngsters on the verge

I also agree that given the talent this is the best side we can field.  I think Kohli will have a field day with our pace.  it isnt much.

Why only a 12 man suad . Is this standard for Home tours ?

thought was 13 or 15...

And that Vishal Singh :

what is the purpose of top scoring in the regionals ??
