Manning marked the precise point at which politics in Trinidad died.
Before 1991, you had broad based political parties.
From Manning onwards, identity politics became a priority. The parties focussed on pandering to different groups, "races" and constituencies. The sole goal of politics, and the political party, then became the perpetuation of The Party. Progress and people stopped mattering. All that mattered was getting power and holding onto it.
In political science there's something called Duverger's law. It basically means that electoral politics eventually collapses down into a two party system. And then, the more these two parties lock heads over time, the dumber and dumber and the more cartoonishly pointless, their politics and political platforms get. With each election, the party panders more and more to each successive wave of lowest common denominators, until you have a nation of clowns led by clowns.

Contrary to what TD says Manning cannot win an election in Trinidad and Tobago without Indo support and Vice versa....no Indo leader can become PM without African votes.
and if Manning was so anti Indo there is no possible way Indos would vote for him in sufficient numbers to facilitate his winning of PM.
