“We need not be poor again” ….President charges diaspora to return home

REITERATING that the country can no longer sustain itself with its traditional export earners, President David has urged the diaspora in the United States to return home and invest in Guyana.“We need not be poor again,” the President told a large gathering at Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary State Dinner held at the Sheraton Hotel, Manhattan, New York on Saturday night.

He charged investors to have confidence in Guyana while being creative, so that this country can prosper as it should. He said investments by foreign countries and entities are welcomed but what is needed more than ever are indigenous Guyanese businesses.

“It is better to have Guyanese companies. You can invest and prosper as readily as foreigners. You are family, please,” he told the attendees of the State dinner. Guyana and Guyanese alike, the President said, are proud of its achievements over the years and will continue to work to enhance the country’s image.

“We Guyanese must continue to pursue a path to provide a good life for our people,” the Guyanese leader stated, while noting that Guyana needs investment to start up its engine of growth.
He said Guyanese living in the diaspora can establish companies here, noting that “we need to develop our industry and reduce reliance on the six sisters… we have to move along the chain of production.”

this is a nice call even if only partly right..the best thing I have seen from Granger since he came in.  his emphasis on indigenous business is spot on, dead right.

but there is a population problem in Guyana that will very quickly peter out all that people do.  the Guyana population is just too small for the land space.  even 1.5 2 million and things can grow well.

and it would be best if the president worked out a total plan of development. he is calling for investment and what will it do when it arrives..what it wants in every way > >

that suggests a kind of capitalist wip wap business model..laissez 'faire.  leave it all up to the capitalist ::confused:: ::confused::  that spells disaster too.

the president must have the plan..have plan will travel. 

I suggest a national bank be set up all now to attract deposits/at interest etc...while a comprehensive cooperative approach to business is developed and taught in schools from the ground up. while at least one total school post secondary is focused entirely on cooperative business..both for direct day classes as well as extra mural and extension education in cooperative that reaches every corner of the nation.

the reason:  capitalism is done..finished.  there are no social benefits to be achieved with capitalism only concentration of wealth and social inequality.  it is long past time to plan economies and to put the profit of work into the hands of workers.

that is what the bank is to do..and what the school educational focus on cooperatives is for..to train for and finance cooperative business projects identified by the government and the people and melded into an ever evolving total business plan for the nation..that provides full employment and general ownership and preempts all future labor problems and running sore social disputes between rapacious capitalists and the people

cooperatives is also the most efficient way to make use of resources, end waste and pollution and to have a total control of the economy and the nation, to know whats actually going on in the economy and so to be able to plan effectively..something that is impossible when the economy is owned and controlled by the forrin imperialists who pay no attention at all to the national governments of the region and to the full needs of the regional nations
