Television ratings dip for IPL

The latest numbers released by the new rating mechanism of BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council), which took over from the erstwhile TAM ratings from March, indicate that the IPL, broadcast by the Sony network, had an average TVR (Television Viewership Rating) - a time-weighted figure factoring in the number of viewers and how much time they spent watching - of 3.50 for the first six matches. Game one of the tournament, between defending champions Mumbai Indians and debutant franchise Rising Pune Supergiants, attracted an audience of 3.24. The next match, between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils, dipped to 2.55. The numbers for the following five matches were 2.98, 3.50, 3.66, 2.86 and 2.23 respectively.

This is a significant dip from the same period from last year when the first five matches of IPL 8 were sampled by 105 million unique viewers, which represented a nine percent spike from 2014. Obviously this is a very small sample size to make any real conclusions right now, so we will need to wait for the final numbers to be released at the tournaments conclusion, however, this does bear watching.

Have fans grown tired of the IPL, is it over saturation of T20 cricket, was the tournament scheduled too close to the WT20 or is this simply a blip on the radar?

When ~ Champion ~  is rated # 75 , TV merely follows  .

Maybe the reason for the dip in figures is a combination if reasons? It's too near to the T20 world cup so people have had their fill for now of watching T20 cricket?

T20,cricket was brought in to add an excitement to cricket that people thought was lacking in the game, but if there's too much of it being played, that excitement just becomes the norm.

Everyone has realized that T20 cricket is basically BAT FIRST and LOSE cricket.

Every IPL and World Cup T20 scorecard I've seen this year has seen the chasing team win.
