In keeping in line with the vegas post, I just want to know WHY is higher education so expensive? For those who don't know, I have a 90% merit-based scholarship from a top business school and I still can't go because I refuse to take a loan out for anything. What shocked me was that even after that kind of a scholarship, I was still going to have to spend $40k a year (conservative estimate) for varioous one time fees, rent, transport, expenses, deposits, etc. It's at moments like these when I feel like maybe Bernie is right. We need sane costs of education.
I mean there are no guarantees. My friend just went to Singapore after a solid MS from CMU. Another had to rush to silicon valley after her massively expensive Stanford education. Taking 5-10 years to pay some loan is dumb.
I mean they market their schools so well because they have all the money. And they make getting in so hard and then once you beat like 99% of the competition and get in, they go... Bam! Pay this much to enter. I mean what tha...

For a 90% free scholarship from a top business school, you should expect to get a great job, and repay that loan in no time. Business school should last 2 yrs, sometimes they have a fast track executive program that lasts one year....so an 'investment' of $40 - 80k's would reap you bountiful rewards. Your procrastination is only to your detriment. Take the loan....get the education...and the rest is history. Remember, you have to spend money to make money. Good luck!

That is a shot through the covers!
It's just as bad in the UK now. My eldest son has a business degree. But no jobs in the UK for him. He has gone abroad to find a job.
My daughter is pushing on to a higher degree so that she stands more chances than the ones who are finishing their degree this year. But at close to the equivalent of U$250K by the time she is finished I hope she'll earn enough to pay off the part I am not covering, and still have money to buy a place. London house prices are now silly money.

Thank you My concern is more for my classmates than myself though. Having paid my undergrad loan in less than 5 years, I sort of got burned out and do not want to take any more loans. I am looking for alternatives right now. But, if nothing works, the bank's always there. I am not going to miss this opportunity, just saying its really dumb that a truck-load of money needs to be spent.
