zika-virus-birth-defects-cdc-countries-mosquitoes , a virus that barely bothered humans until last year, has been moving. First, it made its way from Africa to a series of tiny islands in Micronesia. Then it bounced through the Pacific Ocean to Easter Island, off the coast of Chile. From there, it was on to Brazil. Now Zika has infected people in more than 20 countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
The mosquito-borne virus doesn't seem to harm most of its victims. But there's microcephaly-zika-virus-birth-defect-pregnancy/in increasing evidence that it can cause serious damage to the brains of fetuses and, in rare instances, devastating neurological problems in adults.

]More than a million people in Brazil have already been infected with the virus, and the numbers in surrounding countries are quickly rising. There's no chance of containing Zika now — but health authorities can potentially slow its spread.

Man made disaster. Looks like Brazil is hit pretty bad. Some African countries too.

The emergence of the Zika virus is not one the chief causes for concern worldwide. There is no vaccine available for this disease, therefore, there now form of defence against it at the moment. The best way avoid it is to limit the potential breeding sites of the Ades Egypti mosquito which carries the disease.
Unlike the Chikungunya or Dengue diseases which are also transmitted by the Ades Egypti mosquito, the Zika virus is not expected to be so debilitating to the infected persons. The great concern, however, is that disease may negatively affect the foetus in pregnant women which have been bitten by the Ades Egypti mosquito.
I am not quite pleased with the posturing of some countries in the way they reveal the incidences of Zica infection which have been contracted externally. They would want to make it seem as if their country is above  being invaded by the virus, however, they should understand that mosquitoes are able to travel great distances over land and sea by attaching themselves to people and equipment.
I hope we will be able to see a drastic reduction in the incidences of affected babies.

I read a story today that there is a major concern about it at the Olympics, and I know that it is really low on the list of concerns for most people, but I think that it is an indication that it really has an international presence, which is something that makes it all the more scary to me.  Let's hope that scientists and researchers are on top of this.

Wow that is pretty concerning, where I live it hasn't spread to yet, but this is definitely cause for concern considering the 2016 Olympics. I feel so bad for those born with microcephaly it truly is a horrible disorder Sad
