South Africa has only produced 7 black African Test players

In 24 years since readmission, South Africa has only produced 7 black African Test players. How can that change?

buss up the elitist structure of the game...take out Lorgat and dem and popularize the admin/organization of the game in RSA. that would bring black cricket organizations into the game at the top and ensure fair selection

the ANC betrayed the people and left the old system in place.  the whites in control simply continued white cricket and played tokenism with black players.  they always had ONE handy but that's it.

now the Pakistani Saffies in charge and its more of the same..only with Pakistanis now captain and increasingin numbers on the team.

and they will end up like the WICB and windies

I am not sure what the definition of Black is in this context as somewhere along the line there might have been some mixing.


I do not see the issue as being Lorgat as the majority of Presidents and CEOs have been blacks but the issue might be who the selectors are, the knowledge base amongst Blacks, Coaching credential amongst blacks etc.


I see Adams coaching one of the T20 teams so that is a start! If we are saying there need to be more black selectors then that may be a point, especially from grassroots upwards.


However would you say the composition of windian selectors prevents them from selecting objectively?

I would like to believe it would not be even 7 if the WI rebels did not tour SA!!  Thanks to the Rebels SA blacks were energized and encouraged to play cricket.

SA kids need more black heros!

googs!  you does come-up with some things eh.  I have been reading about South African black cricket since I was a lil boy.  there is a long strong tradition of black cricket in South Africa full of great heros like Sobers and Kanhai were to west indians in our time.

there always were black players capable of stepping into the RSA test side  and beating the world.  there may be less today than there were over the years to tell you the truth.  but the way towards greater diversity in representation of that nation is in popular democracy in the administration of the game

Mail..I hit Lorgat because he is the man now in charge and with him it is 'same as it ever was'  Lorgat is elitist, looks after his own and keeps the status intact.  all the black administrators before him and around him now are the same..they administer to keep the status intact.

I have proposed the principle that solves elitist sectarian control and that is popular based administration that brings in general interests into the administrative mix with full power..expands participation in decision making, neutralizes the elitist power, taking away its dominance.  that is how to go if you want change

yeah!  well bully fuh dat then.  I not gainsaying it.  but it wasn't all.  deh had they own motivation to play cricket for generations ..all the way back to when the game began in that region
