Vaughan has long been calling for Rashid to be picked ahead of Moeen. It's a bit of a tough dilemma for the selectors. Moeen has been out of form and really struggled since coming back from his injury. Rashid has the potential to turn a match - he also has the potential to get carted all around the ground and given that Stokes and Wood can also be expensive, that could cause some real problems for Cook.

I actually think no matter which spinner is picked, Australia will likely try and target them early to drive them out of the attack meaning Jimmy and Broad have to bowl more overs making them less effective.

If I were a selector, I I'd go with Rashid for the first Test. Be bold, be aggressive.

In Rashid's defense, his batting has come on quite a bit in four-day cricket over the last few years albeit against County Championship bowlers. Last year, Rashid finished with an average of 38.46 in Division One.

Moeen has struggled with the bat at the Test level so far, averaging 28.50 and if he does play, his problems with the short ball are likely to be exploited by the Aussies this summer.

Based on what I have read so far, it would appear that Moeen will get the nod for the first Test.

Rather curious/suspicious that he didn't say anything about this for two years. If it was really true, why didn't he say anything about this in the aftermath of the incident instead of waiting 2 years.
