WICB dumped Guyana as venue for England test

Last test was Pakistan in May 2011.

But I think a test was to be played when Australia last toured but that was when there some ruckus between GCB and the board and the test got moved to Dominica (I think)

What the bidding process is is anyone's guess:

As fans in T&T stress over the fact that they will not see a Test match at the Queen’s Park Oval this year, Azim Bassarath, president of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) says that the rest of the region out-priced T&T’s bid.

Bassarath, who is also a director on the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), revealed that the countries which are hosting the Test match series against England and Australia all submitted bids that were double in value to what T&T offered.

England will be playing three Test matches, the first starts on Monday in Antigua, to be followed by Grenada and Barbados. Australia then follows for two Tests at Windsor Park in Dominica and Sabina Park in Jamaica.

CEO of the TTCB Suruj Ragoonath said recently that the government of T&T was willing to bid US$250,000 for the second Test against Australia but this was rejected. Ragoonath said  the TTCB had informed the WICB of its interest in bidding for the Test but were told that it needed to come directly from the government and not the local board.

He said by the time they got government involved officially, the WICB had announced Jamaica, as the venue for the Test. Bassarath said: ”We had indicated to WICB that there was a willingness to bid US$250,000 for the second Test against Australia but it did not work out. What I understand is basically T&T was priced out of the bid because  Antigua paid US$500,000 and provided a parcel of land, Barbados’ bid was US$500,000, Grenada’s bid was US$500,000, as well as Antigua and Jamaica.
“This would have led to the WICB allocating the matches to those countries. One has to understand that we only had a chance to get involve in the Australian series because we were given a hearing by the then minister of national security Gary Griffith. He helped us because the former minister of Sport, Anil Roberts did not see eye to eye with the TTCB.

“As a matter of fact, the reason we had no chance of getting an England Test was because the information to bid for that series was sent to him but he did nothing about it. We have a new minister in Brent Sancho who is willing to assist cricket and we are going to make sure that things like this doesn’t not happen in the future.”

Bassarath continued:”I would like to remind the people of this country that they got a Test match last year when New Zealand toured and the stands at the Oval were empty. So while they argue for matches, they must understand that attendance is also a factor in getting games.”

i would never agree if guyana govt bid 500,000 for a match.

Yes, the Test was originally scheduled for Providence but moved to Dominica.
