Richie Benaud dies

RIP to one of the all time Great cricket ambassadors!  Everything he did, bowl, bat, captain, commentating, etc was done with class and quality!

R.I.P. Ritchie.

To be honest the commentary box and the profession hasn't been the same since he left.  Everyone these days just shouts and hollers when they call the play or drone on incessantly with anecdotes from their playing days when doing colour commentary.

One of my favourite Ritchie comm moment was during the 1996 WC game between the Windies and India at Gwalior.  Curtly Ambrose bowls to Tendulkar who whips the ball off his hips to mid-wicket for four.  Ritchie calls the play: "Glorious stroke.  Wonderful talent.  And Curtly might be thinking the same thing too. 24 for 2."

NOT since the passing of Sir Donald Bradman has the passing of a former Australian cricketer been covered so extensively in the international media.

Cricketing and non-cricketing nations alike took time to reflect on the career and life of Richie Benaud, who passed away in Sydney this week at the age of 84.
