Wade and Pattinson combine to dominate

Overlooked for the World Cup squad, Matthew Wade blasted a career-best at the Gabba while fiery quick James Pattinson also starred on his first-class return.

There was much to savour when a Matthew Wade-inspired Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers took day one honours in their Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland on Saturday. But centurion Wade reckoned the Gabba crowd should have cherished seeing James Pattinson in full flight for Victoria the most. "He won't be here for too much longer - he will be straight back into the Australian set-up," Victorian skipper Wade predicted. Wade was a hard act to follow after stroking an emotional, career-high 152, to help Victoria recover from 7-126 to post 260 after winning the toss. Wade dedicated the knock to his departed close mate Phillip Hughes. But Pattinson (2-22) still did his best to steal the show in his first-class return from a back injury suffered on the Test tour of South Africa last March.

AUS's cupboard seems full with players to step up in the future ...... makes for an enviable though contentious selection process for CA election as  everyone is putting their hand up !!
