Prime Minister Stephen Harper engaged in Islamophobia when he linked mosques to the radicalization of young Muslims, New Democratic Party Leader Tom Mulcair charged Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Mulcair said Harper stepped over the line.

“It was irresponsible of the prime minister to throw the mosques into his comments. It was a form of Islamophobia and it was wrong.”

Mulcair called on Harper to issue an apology.
