Here's Where I Stand on Marriage...

The basic concept of marriage I totally disagree with...

1. I don't believe that the woman should take the man's name because it's all about the female, she's the gateway of life, food for the baby comes from her body, and the establisher of the relationship and family, and so if a name has to be assumed, then it should be the male assuming the woman's name. Because the gift of life comes from the woman. It's as Mary McCleod Bethune once said:

"Next to God we are indebted to women. First for life itself and then making it worth living."

So the man should be taking the woman's name. For the woman to assume the man's name is backwards, and I don't agree with it. For that reason alone I could never get married.

2. And then the basic concept of marriage glides downhill from there.... Since the woman starts right off abandoning her identity for the man's, everything else about her is dedicated in his favor, which I also disagree with. It's like launching a nuclear missile at life itself and then expecting it to flourish from the wreckage.

And I hear so many of the same stories from women who express how good their relationship was before getting married, and then suddenly after the marriage he changed and became demanding of her surrender of herself to him. It's insanity when you think about it.

At the wedding ceremony, the woman wraps herself in a gift wrap looking dress and presents herself as a package to the male. A piece of property being given to him. I find this extremely disturbing and impossible for me to go along with. If it were up to me, I would abolish marriage and make it illegal because I see it as an act of enslavement, a violation to the value of women, and a false idolization of the male. i'm not saying that people shouldn't tie the knot of monogamy, but that the way we do it is backwards. It's literally blasphemy.

Patty....those are the most flimsy reasons to give for not getting married.....
1)  who says you have to change your name?.  my daughter never changed her last name after marriage. You know in many parts of europe (Italy especially) it is and has been the norm for the woman to keep her maiden name?
2)  so this ones does not really apply since you can actually keep your name?
3)  who says you have to giftwrap yourself?  man look....you can get married in whatever outfit or none at all.  also, most often it is the woman who wants the pomp and pagentry that goes with a wedding.

Are you also saying that co-habitation/living-together relationships are much better simply because there is no 'marriage'?

I'm in America. And in America, most women assume the man's name in marriage. And truth be told, you are cohabiting with a man if you're living with him whether there's a legal document or not. The marriage certificate is nothing but a piece of paper. A legal document making your relationship a business. That doesn't change the fact you're cohabiting with a man.  Smile

But I'm glad that your daughter was smart enough to keep her name.  Wink

But I gather you didn't. Am I correct? Aren't you carrying your husband's name?

You thanking Belle's post...

You need to shut the hell up because you don't believe in marriage either.  ::LOL::

You running around soliciting strangers to swallow your wee wee.  ::LOL::

You have admitted yourself that you have no aptitude for a relationship.  ::LOL::
