AS Phillip Hughes lay behind a sheet on the SCG outfield receiving emergency treatment on that fateful day in late November, cricketers sat in the dressing rooms in silent hope.

Two days later they gathered in those sacred sheds again to grieve his tragic passing.

This week Australian players return to the SCG dressing rooms for the first time since their lives changed forever, and are expected to prepare for a fourth Test match.

Watson ready for emotional SCG return

Allrounder prepared for difficult memories in first match back after Hughes's passing

In a summer that has already seen so much previously untravelled territory, another Rubicon was crossed this afternoon when Australia’s Test players returned for the first time in competitive mode to the ground on which Phillip Hughes was felled. The last time most of Hughes’s former teammates were gathered at the Sydney Cricket Ground was that gloomy evening immediately after he passed away at nearby St Vincent’s Hospital, and the subsequent playing schedule has taken them to many points but. On that night, they grieved in the dressing room, made a pilgrimage to the pitch and collectively vowed they would do their mate and his memory proud.
