NEW YORK -- One of the nation's largest newspapers says it will no longer use the name Redskins when writing about Washington's NFL team.
The Daily News of New York said Thursday in a lead editorial titled "Sack the Name" that the reference will no longer be part of stories and columns. The name, however, may appear in quotations, reader letters and discussion of the dispute. Also, the logo of a feathered Native American will be dropped, replaced by an image that features team colors.
The editorial notes that language changes through the years, and "the time has come to leave the word behind."
Other media outlets have also dropped the name. Last month, CBS analyst Phil Simms, who will handle Washington's Week 4 game, said he likely won't use the nickname.
If the name is so offensive and politically incorrect, then why don't we solve the whole political crap and do the right thing? Give them their LAND back too. We seemed to have no problem taking that from them. There are greater fish to fry in this corrupt country than worrying about the name of a football team that has been around for 80 years.
Heh if you give them back their land then there would be no United States left. Outside of a cash settlement there really is no way to make up for the hurt the invading Europeans and early American settlers put upon their civilization. But to go berserk over a sports logo is just silly or as kwami would put it to try and act smarter than he really is "asinine".

Wow! I thought all media outlets stopped using that term at the beginning of this calendar year.
Remember, when all of those ABC affiliates agreed to stop using that term. I believe HBO Sports and CBS stopped saying the term Red Skins a long time ago.
I completely agree, yes Language changes over the years and certain names become archaic and dated and some may find it offenssive, but this whole notion of being offended FOR an entire racial group as an observer looking is something that especially white Americans must let go, for example, I am black, I identify myself as black, if I go to the states and an official refers to me, what will he say? "The African American?" No I'm not American, I am Jamaican, and further, Caribbean, and I don't Identify myself as African, I've never been to an African State, of African descent yes, but technically so is all of humanity. I am black, in the same way that you are white.
What about the Atlanta Braves logo ? There are also more than a few college football and basketball teams with Native American names, slogans and/or logos.
