Wavell Hinds Had Good Intentions

WI cricket will not improve until first-class standard improves. Paying regional players more would have gone a long way to doing that. They should let nothing jeopardize that.

I totally disagree.

You cannot agree to somethng your representatives had not authorised to do. You do not have good intentions if due process has not been adhered to.

Not just this but in addition to naking a unilateral decision you have signed your members up to a pay cut of a reported 75%!

Maybe Wavell should cut his pay by same!

He like other West indian do not have the integrity to step down when his members do not want him representing them.

Yes Hinds is correct. But Good Intentions don`t always translate to good results without a viable action plan.

Also WICB was wrong in appointing Bravo as ODI captain. WI should be lead by someone who is always available to play in test & ODI . Bravo must make up his mind on this. Else Ramaadin should lead in both formats.

If you want an equitable pay structure for your members, then you negotiate that with the employers and NOT disadvantage some members in a deceitful way.

The fact is the WICB agreed to implement the PCL and by so doing should have secured recurrent funds to ensure it happens.

It is not the duty of the Union to raise funds, it is the responsibilty of the CEO through his CFO and Commercial leads!

It is the duty of the Union to represent its members when asked to do so!

Mr Manager, Unions World Wide have been a disaster. Why don`t players negotiate direct? Also if it is about equatable pay then i strongly recommend performance based pay. These guys have been losing for long & board simply endured. In Professional life, money comes with accountability & ability to win situations. Merely turning up in office & not delivering day in day out ( like Windies Current crop of cricketers) in not acceptable. Also loyalty to an organization counts & many simply don`t feel the urge to give 100% for WI when on the field.

I think Hinds is a WICB puppet, and I blame the WICB and Hinds for the India fiasco moreso than the senior players.

That said, it is not true that "people do not want Hinds representing them". Hinds represents the majority of West Indian cricketers. The senior players represent only a small percentage of those who vote at WIPA meetings. Guys like Tino Best and Devon Smith will out-vote anything the "rich players" like Dwayne Bravo object to.

It's an interesting situation. Traditionally, unions are infiltrated and run by the the employees (WICB) via proxy. The union then becomes a tool of the bosses to screw the worker. Here, though, some workers are turning against the union. The majority of workers, meanwhile, seem to love it. I suspect the WICB doesn't care either way, unless it stands to profit more from the new "benevolent" payment structure. Or maybe the WICB genuinely cares about WI cricket. Who knows.

For what it's worth, the "new payment structures" are similar to those used in Australia and England, though much less cash is dished out.
