Chin,

I wish neither to be partisan nor confrontational and I recognise it is a difficult question to answer. The question was asked after reading many post since I have been on this forum and prompted by Rev quoting another, copied below my post, and wanted to discuss it.

What is the quote below saying? Is there a genuine feeling of Shiv in that way as I have never come across that view in very informed cricket circles, have you?

When you have Rev continually harping on about Shiv's treasured not out surely peole would pick up on that as a major negative. I have no reason to believe this is Shiv's objective but if that is really his aim then he is open to criticism as he is playing for statistics and not the team.

This entire identity issue baffles me and hence me finally being prompted to ask the questions. Not sure I quite comprehend the question of West Indianess apropos Shiv endorsed by Rev!

Look I am here for discussion and not to have a swing at anyone and do not wish to be part of the insular sledging.

Do you have any comments on below Chin?

Rev's post...

EXCELLENT COMMENT BY NARPER

Quote

On this board.....What is a west indian?

or better WHO is a west Indian?

I will tell you....in dem books he(Shiv Chanderpaul) does not look like a west indian...he does not bat like a west indian...THEREFORE HE IS NOT A WEST INDIAN

In dem books....he is selfish....he plays for not out only....he couldn't care less for the team

In dem book....his stats are irrelevant

They are irritated now....since he is about to be the record holder of the most runs scored by a "west Indian'

You see me...I am from de mudland....I am one of the few mudlanders who studied and lived among west Indians for sometime.....and now in Canada who continue to be amongst west Indians.....I can easily recognize de type....de haters....those who feel dem have de monopoly in any WI team..BY BIRTHRIGTH

Chin,

Sadly I do not think there are genuine discussions in this forum and that is quite tragic.

However I do not wish to get involved in anyone's personal family issues as I wish to deal with people as they appear here on purely discussion terms.

When someone makes a statement of ethnic matters in the West Indies then I take that quite seriously, except it does not mirror my personal experience on my frequent visits or even my cricketing pals at home so I find the accusation quite perplexing.

I do not know how frequently those making such statements visit the region and what their sources are but, whilst I appreciate the ethnic undertones, my experience in the region does not substantiate such claims.

As you know, there may not be a West Indian nation but an identity of a geographical region bought together solely for Cricket and although Federation was bandied about, there was never a legal entity as such. However that is all semantics really.

It just gets tiresome when the same thing is drummed in over and over again. It is becoming more a propaganda machinery than anything else.

"Can I ask a genuine question? Do Guyanese have an inferiority complex?"

No, it's me who now has an inferiority complex.

Ketchim already has me marrying a Guyanese woman, seeking a Guyanese passport and looking to buy land in Berbice.

I have become a self-hating Trinidadian who seeks to atone for his unconcious hatred of Guyana by becoming Guyanese. This forum has destroyed my mental health and self-identity. I am filled with shame, self-loathing and disgust at my unwholesome Trinidadian roots. I already plan to name my next daughter Tagenarine Shivnarine. Hopefully this ordeal will make me a better person, and by "better" I mean "fully Guyanese".

I am so confused.
