Seriously, I'm not blaming Moeen AT ALL - the guy played an excellent innings. However, part of me feels that he didn't farm the strike nearly as well.
Anderson defended like 50+ balls - and IMO as a #9 he shouldn't have. Moeen shouldn't have let him to face so many balls, at least when draw was in sight.
He seemed confident and moeen saw his resolve and let him take the strike.Anything short he kept it down properly and length balls were fended off the pad or pushed away.Maybe had Moeen got much more balls to bat out,England probably might have stood a better chance at staving off a defeat.Mixed Emotions for me.!!
If you saw the match live you would have seen Moeen doing just that, farming the strike. Jimmy has been our night watchman and have been great at defending, Cardiff with Panesar comes to mind.
However I would have though both should have planned for Moeen to face the last over as the Lankans would be on all cylinders which Mo was best equipped to handle.
All said, Lanka did deserve this win and Mo did a sterling job.

Well not enough. He did farm the strike (my question is should have done it BETTER), but not nearly efficiently enough. There were plenty of overs where Anderson had to face it in full. And just because he's done it in past doesn't mean he's not a #9. And yes, last over too, he should have planned better to face it.
