KUMAR Sangakkara’s not the only big-name overseas star heading for Durham – G Force14 are bringing Shivnarine Chanderpaul back to the region.

We’re delighted Shiv has agreed to come and play for a Durham Legends side against the Jets in our Twenty20 game next week.

It’s a chance for fans to see one of the men who helped deliver success to the county for the first time.

When Shiv first arrived back in 2008, we had a good team that was knocking on the door of success, and he proved to be one of the final pieces in the jigsaw.

He came in and immediately helped us win our first-ever trophy, the Friends Provident Trophy at Lord’s, then returned the following season as we won the County Championship for the first time.

Shiv had a fantastic impact. I’d played against him in Under-19 cricket back in the West Indies so I’d known him for years, and knew what he was all about…

During the 2007 Friends Provident Trophy, which Durham won, Chanderpaul only played in one game for Durham, the finals, and he made 78 off 79 balls, before being run out, presumably by Marlon Samuels.

During the 2008 County Championship, he was very very poor, making non stop ducks and low scores, and one century. If I remember correctly, he was ICC test batsmen of the year during this period.

Why do Trinis find it so difficult to think like this ??  :-\

I am really sadly amazed at the insular reactions when something is said about Shiv, whether it be true, a perspective or something worth thinking of.

I really felt insularity existed elsewhere with the likes of Ramesh, Boqui etc but I am sadly wrong.

How many matches did Shiv really play for Durham? I recall in the couple of games he played he did well but surely this did not shape what Durham had done prior to his brief visit.

I am really saddened that the conversations is reduced to Trinis this or that.

Quite pathetic and infantile really.

Ketchim,

You deviate from comments and unbiased views and get onto a high horse unnecessarily.

It is like someone stupid has suddenly hijacked your account and they cannot be objective, as they have never seen any of my posts about Tiger.

You seem to argue for the sake of argument and maybe you are missing Ramesh and Soca.

You carry on your stupidity and you will be talking to yourself anon.
