Brian Lara dislodged a bail (the left one, above)  :-[

as he pulled the ball for four to set the world record

"When he went past the record, he hit the stumps.

The ball was over the boundary rope in a flash, but I remember the bail going up in the air

because he had knocked it with his foot or his pad.

"As the ball traveled to the boundary, I was watching the bail and realising I would need to appeal

if it fell off.

I also thought to myself that if I do appeal,I won't make it home - I'll be lynched.

The bail didn't fall off in the end but it stayed slightly out of its slot."

Chanderpaul:

"At the end of that day, the dressing room was a very happy place to be.

Everybody was out celebrating and having some fun.

It was an exciting moment and I enjoyed it as a young fella just coming into the side

in my debut series."  8)

Wow,i have never seen his innings of 375.I was a kid,a 2 yr old..Only after seeing this post did i realize i haven't taken a peek at the video that has eluded me all these yr..
Thanks guys..I really am gonna download a video of the innings and watch it all over..Tks to you for reminding me

Shiv played young then and played to cautiously towards the latter part of this innings.  he was feeding the strike to Lara.  Earlier, he was matching Lara stroke for stroke.  If he had carried on like that he would have gotten that century easily. 

Shiv was being the ultimate team player by feeding the strike to Lara and holding down the other end.  Why you think Lara was so grateful to him?  Lara took him on the parade and functions, etc...because he knew that without Shiv there would have been no record. 

It would have been nice to at least give Shiv the opportunity to make his century in his debut series.

The Match was dead .....Shiv could have been given a half hour
