yes. he gave us all our names

Pandit had to look into the book based on time and date of birth , and other astronomy :

then the parents would get a couple of letters  ( upon datchna exchanging hands)

then compose a name out of the letters from the good Book !

I think  :-\

this reminds me a story Ketch.

one of my niece is married to a Hindu fella (he converted of course  Smile )
but when she was having her first chile the evil Smile mother-in-law visited the Pandit and insisted that the baby's name must beging with "K".....so she named the baby Karishma.

my niece stood her ground and said fine.....I will pick a name starting with K......and promptly and legally named the baby Karimah!

the baby will be 16 in May and the eveil  Smile  MIL refuses to call her Karimah!

Tired of the destruction they had caused on earth, Brahma approached Vishwakarma, the heavenly architect, to find a solution. They decided to create a woman so beautiful that nobody could take their eyes off her. Accordingly, Vishwakarma created the exquistly beautiful Tilottama, seeing whom even Shiva could not remove his gaze. Brahma then instructed her to meet the demons. Tilottama appeared before the demons and seeing her, both brothers fell for her charms. They both wanted to marry her and thus, a fierce enmity followed. They took up arms against each other and died fighting. Unfortunately, Tilottama's charms kept captivating one and all. So Brahma gave curse that nobody would be able to cast his eyes on her for too long.
