Holi that takes place during the months of March and April is the spring festival that is celebrated predominantly in Northern and Central India. While this festival is not strictly a New Year celebration that begins two weeks later, many of its festivals are linked with the destruction in flames of the old bringing in of the new. This derives from the burning of Holika and the praying of Prahlada to Vishnu to not burn him during their battle.
