* In order for the West Indies to become a competitive team again in test matches they must field at least 2 bowlers who average less than 30 with the ball.
* It's that simple.
HERE ARE THE TEST BOWLING AVERAGES OF WI BOWLERS:
27.72---Roach --only WI bowler who averages less than 30
32.32---Shillingford---banned
34.79---Rampaul
35.64---Taylor
35.79---Sammy
37.66---Permaul
38.84---Gabriel
39.55---Bishoo
39.83---Bravo
40.19---Best
40.52---Narine
* Given the talent or lack of talent above, what is the probability the West Indies could field 2 bowlers averaging less than 30 in any test match over the next 5 years ?
* Looks like zero.
* That means WI cricket will remain in the toilet for years to come.
Actually Rampaul's recent form is on an upward trend. He seems more potent than the rest. He needs better nutrition, diet and exercise like Zaheer Khan to play tests. Roach is just a victim of the "play Sammy at all costs" selection policy.
I think Roach and Rampaul, with a BETTER bowling coach, can be our strike bowlers in the near term. Not sure about the rest. Jerome Taylor is very talented too but the stupid Dotties banished him too.
We need strike bowlers but we need to SUPPORT them too. West Indian culture seems punitive, blame and shame, more than support and nurturing..
I know you're a numbers man...BUT I would also factor recent form AND COACHING support...A skunt like Otis can't provide the framework or support structure to make these guys overachieve...
Look at the NZ bowlers bowling in the mid 130k and giving us hell... We have 90mph bowlers like Tino et al who can't get anyone out...
The Bowlers need a better coach and better SUPPORT...better diet, exercise and nutrition...I expect Roach and Ravi to improve and Taylor to make it back...so the future is not that bleak...all we need to do is fire Scammy and Otis the ass
fus' thing Rev..is to get competent people in selection and coaching. in fact I would eliminate the coaching position at the top and reinstate the manager and captain as the top guys in the mix.
competent people can judge talent...and most importantly develop an ambient around the team and in regional cricket conducive to building confidence in players and brining out the best in them
the wicb has gathered a collection of the worst west indians to run the team...Richardson, Williams, Gibson, Buttsy and his group....all these people are of the same mind and ilk..the opposite of what is needed in west indies cricket

* Nice words babulall--well said.
* But let's look at the NUMBERS.
* In the last 2 calendar years Rampaul has played in 5 tests---he took 14 wickets at an average of 35.00.
* You may see upward trend.
* But Rampaul is not yet a test bowler averaging less than 30.
* The Rev maintains that until which time the WI fields 2 bowlers averaging less than 30 with the ball----they will struggle in tests.

Mappy:
* You and babulall make a lot of sense.
* You guys know your cricket.
* But the Rev looks at the cricket differently.
* I have posted the bowling averages of all the WI bowlers---see the link above.
* And what I see is there is only 1 bowler who averages less than 30 with the ball.
* And I will repeat for the nth time---until which time the WI can field 2 bowlers who average less than 30 with the ball---they will continue to struggle.
QUESTION:
* How can the West Indies develop bowlers who average less than 30 with the ball ?
* Are any of the current bowlers ---other than Roach----capable of averaging less than 30 ?
* Can Narine average less than 30 ? How about Rampaul ?
well wat I mean Rev.... is that there is bound to be a world beater or 2 among, Gabriel, Holder, Cottrrell, Johnson, Cummins and the rest at the moment. but Gibson isnt going to get it out of them. that Jackass likes Best and old Fidel.
if a head coach needs pace to win and focuses on Best to the exclusion of all others what you expect..that the rest would be falling over themselves to bowl for him?
Gibson boasts about Best you know..elevated him to the #1 paceman in the west indies...
forget it. you need new people in charge who know what they are about.
at the moment you need just one of quality to develop and come in with Rampaul and Roach and we in business.
Gibson has not been looking, he settled on Best and apparently is prepared to stick with him until he is 40
Roach's whole personality has changed. He is very serious about his cricket, very serious about his batting and his bowling has improved leaps and bounds.
To my eyes, these the only good bowlers in the Caribbean:
Roach
Rampaul
Holder
Badree
Narine
Santokie
We need a stable of 4 killer fast bowlers. Right now we have 1 and a half and they keep breaking down. Narine's test stats will improve. Shillingford's a big wicket taker, but we may have to give up on him entirely.
