Pope Francis has met players from his favourite football team, San Lorenzo, to celebrate their victory in the Argentine top division.

The jersey has the words Francisco Campeon (Francis Champion) emblazoned on the back. 8)

He has repeatedly spoken of the spiritual values of team sports, telling the rugby squads

of Italy and Argentina that :

"rugby is like life because we are all heading for a goal, we need to run together

and pass the ball from hand to hand until we get to it".

I know english soccer players from 1966 and the world cup they stole... none before

Man of the people, that Pope Francis. I would call him the first modern Pope, he speaks on current issues, he isn't afraid to be radical, and he's inspiring a lot of people to take a second look at the Vatican and the Catholic Church. Maybe some new converts too.
Just wait until there's a spicy controversy surrounding him sometime in the future though, it's inevitable  ;D
