The thread is about one man and I gave 3 examples of Sachin's countrymen.

Gavaskar was most prolific against the West Indies.

I agree with easyrider. Doubt Sach would've struggled as much as Immy K is implying here. Had did face a few quality bowlers. It's all conjecture anyway.

I know batsmen scored against the real pace but not often.  there were series in which no opposition scored a ton.

a batsman who scored well against west indies was Majid Khan the one I rate best.  Miandad scored too.  and there was mohinder Amarnath in the west indies in the eighties whom the pace could not keep quiet.

but that was a fluke for in the return engagement amarnath could not score at all.  but not Majid Khan.  he scored whenever he played

Greig, Knot, Amis, David Steel, Lamb, as well as Miandad and Khan, Gavaskar, Gower.  Greg Chappell retired rather than face the pace.

Imran has a point.  That is why I always hold Gavaskar the greatest batsman to come out of India and the world's greatest opening batsman, period.

Having said that, 10D's greatest should be diminished because he was born in a different era.  He mastered all the bowlers in his time.

Based on the ease at which Tendulkar dealt with pace, and his scores particularly in Australia, I think challenges may have existed but he would have dealt with the West Indies pace attack much like Gavaskar.

Going down this road is really tricky because Lara did not face the great West Indian pace attack, as they all had retired when he started off with maybe the exception of Marshall.

We will not know definitively but we can only go on ability.

He did face the likes of Lee, Akthar, Waqar and Wasim etc.
