I came across this article a few hours after I finally decided to comment on an issue that has been on my mind for a long time and which became foremost in my thoughts during the second game of the Caribbean Premier League on July 31. Back then I asked some colleagues why was 17-year-old Nicolas Pooran turning out for the Red Steel instead of representing Trinidad and Tobago in the Under-19 tournament taking place simultaneously in St. Kitts. One response was that the CPL would be good exposure for the youngster.  Pooran proceeded to unleash a barrage of breathtaking strokes on his way to a 24-ball 54 that belied his years. Thanks to television I, and viewers around the globe, caught a glimpse of the left-hander’s undoubted talent, a talent which needs to be channeled very carefully.

I recall Gayle averaging the low 30s in Tests and was in and out of the team until he started.

I respect any batsman who scores a ton on debut against a winning and dominant Australian team.
Barath has lost his way and one hopes he regains his place soon a he is very good. He seemed more selective when I last saw him, albeit on telly.
Whether Lewis, Pooran or whoever, to have 17 years old and other young guys blooded in T20 when they have not been nurtured and their techniques are not honed is dangerous. They need to play more 4 day cricket in my view.
I have to say Lewis' stepping away to the leg, a la Hughes, was better tempered in India for the CT.
 

Idk what to think of Pooran yet - if he's Barath 2.0 as socafighter said, or genuine talent. All I know is that he grassed a golden opportunity with Bangla boys.

Anyways, hope he comes out good tbh.

I totally disagree.
He does not have too many flaws as his basics are absolutely sound.
His problem was shot selection and he has improved in that department.
He is only 23 for goodness sakes.
All said and done Barath should be looking to score, score and score in the upcoming season and hopefully he can get a League contract.
Early success can go to one's head but I am sure he is maturing.
If anything Lewis has much to work on as he constantly moves away to leg but in the CL, he looked better. He is a wonderful prospect though.
Have to say unlike you guys my knowledge of these players are from what I see on TV/ Streaming and reading.

Well it is all down to Adrian and if he scores heavily then the selectors have to consider him.

Shorter batsmen always play the cut shot and the issue is how effectively and when the shot is chosen.

I do not see that as an issue.

You give up on him, I do not and if in 5 years time he does not achieve anything, I will smoke my hat.

he has to learn to leave those balls that he think he is great at cutting.  batting at penal he probably strokes it around.

seems like another  Johanatan Choo
