Police have launched an investigation following the unsuccessful attempt to burn the Enterprise Primary School, East Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.
The fire was set at about 04:00hrs yesterday. Police reported that the fire was observed by security guards on duty at the school and was extinguished by residents who formed a bucket brigade.
Two plastic containers with diesel were found in the building and are lodged with the police.  The scorched Enterprise Primary School, East Coast Demerara.
Meanwhile, residents said that several villagers were reportedly playing their music systems loudly and they summoned the police to the scene. It is alleged that after the music was shut down by the lawmen, the revellers became angry and decided to torch the school.
Reports said residents quickly put out the blaze before the fire tenders arrived on the scene. Later in the day police were at the school conducting investigations.
Residents said that they cannot understand the logic behind the attempt to burn the school since those who attempted to destroy the building have children who attend the school[/td][/tr][/table]

Two baggage handlers have been arrested in connection with the discovery of 2.2 kilogrammes of cocaine in the baggage-hold of a Toronto-bound Caribbean Airlines (CAL) aircraft, a senior anti-drug agent said Saturday.

The official said the baggage handlers are employed by a local handling company for  CAL at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

Charges could be laid against the duo by the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) early in the new week, the source said.

Meanwhile, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) said “there is strong evidence to suggest that staff from more than one agency were working in collusion to facilitate this illegal activity.”

The aircraft had touched down at Cheddi Jagan International Airport at 12:11 hrs from Trinidad to pick up passengers enroute to Toronto, Canada.

After all baggage was offloaded from the aft hold, airline security conducted a sweep of the hold as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). “It was during this exercise; two packages of the illegal substance were discovered,” said the airport authority.

Uitvlugt Estate staff down tools over colleagues’ dismissal

WORKERS of the Uitvlugt Sugar Estate are currently on strike to express displeasure and disagreement at the dismissal of some of their co-workers; but the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) says the workers were dismissed for serious misconduct in the execution of their duties.
Uitvlugt Estate workers say that as workers approach retirement age, GuySuCo routinely dismisses them for frivolous reasons.

One worker, who has been dismissed after more than 39 years in the industry’s employ, disclosed that he cannot comprehend the reason for his dismissal. He explained that an extremely dry crop season resulted in approximately 0.1 per cent of ten acres of cane not being adequately planted, and this caused his dismissal from GuySuCo.

[/quote]  China and Russia are communist? my friend China has managed to lift 600 million out  of poverty in the last 40 years , Russia has a flat tax rate of 14% regardless of income .
India with the same population  as  China but is a democracy  and capitalist and  and they  are wallowing in filth and poverty . If Guyana can indeed become like China and Russia then  it would be great news for Guyanese
