FACTS ABOUT LINDEN AND ELECTRICITY!!!!
Opposition Politicians have inserted the...mselves into the equation to make Lindeners believe that cheap power is ordained for them. And while the action of protesting Lindeners can be explained and to some extent, excused the same cannot be said for the opposition political parties APNU and AFC. Lindeners are currently benefiting from cheap power and despite being portrayed as a depressed community here are some interesting facts
1. The average electricity consumption of the people of Linden is two to three times more than consumers elsewhere on the national grid.
2. For 2011 alone, Linden benefitted from some $3 billion in subsidy, while other Guyanese footed their electricity bills.
3. This $3B subsidy could have allowed a 10 per cent reduction in the electricity bill for each and every Guyanese outside of Linden.
4. The new rates will result in bauxite pensioners not being charged for the first 50 kilowatts per hour (kWh) of electricity consumed. While the rates for residents of the right bank and left bank of the mining town will remain unchanged at $5 and $7 for the first 50 kWh. Commercial and industrial businesses will continue to be charged $12 and $15 for the first 50 kWh.
