The leader of the Peruvian terrorist group Shining Path has been captured.

Officials in Peru said Jose Eleuterio Flores Hala, who is also known as Comrade Artemio, was wounded by security forces near the town of Tocache, San Martin.

In a short battle with police, Artemio was almost left for dead after receiving three shots to the body. ::twisted::

It is understood he lost an arm to a bullet.

After realising he was still alive, police rushed Artemio to hospital where he is currently receiving intense medical treatment.
