Kraigg Brathwaite steps down as Test captain

Kraigg Brathwaite has officially stepped down as Test captain, having first indicated his intention to do so to CWI leadership earlier this year ahead of the completion of the West Indies’ successful tour of Pakistan. Understanding the importance of continuity, Brathwaite wanted to ensure the team had a period of transition before his departure. As a result, he has submitted his resignation ahead of the home series against Australia, giving the new leadership time to establish itself. This series will be particularly special, allowing Brathwaite, who is two matches shy of 100 test matches, to double down on his batting without added responsibility.

I am surprised at Kraigg giving up the captaincy. I like him as a player. I was hoping he could have carried on, and left on his own accord. Maybe hints forced the acceleration of his decision to give up captaincy. Was he secretly forced out or what? My replacement would be Joshua Da Silva.

What the West Indies Cricket needs least is a placeholder. A captain who is merely a placeholder lacks leadership, motivation, and authority. Without real influence, they fail to inspire, resolve conflicts, or make crucial decisions, leading to chaos, low morale, and ultimately, a broken team. We need a Captain who is all in and wants the responsibility of captain. There's only one player who fills that need as far as I am concerned. Not DaSilva, Athanaze or Imlach. I don't think DaSilva or Imlach will be a part of the starting unit in two years. Jewel Andrews will take over as the Wicket Keeper. Please no Placeholder as the team Captain.
