Now, instead of the first eight teams in each conference making the playoffs
at the end of the regular season, only the top six clubs
in both the East and West automatically qualify.

The seventh- and eighth-place teams in each conference get two chances each
to win a one-game elimination in the play-in tournament.
The winner of the seven vs. eight game advances to the playoffs.
The loser plays the winner of the nine vs. 10 game

This year, Toronto finished ninth in the Eastern Conference
and will host former Raptor DeMar DeRozan
and the 10th-place Chicago Bulls
on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena
in a one-game elimination.

That winner will face off against the loser of the seven-eight game between
the No. 7 Miami Heat and No. 8 Atlanta Hawks.

This game will be played on Friday in either Miami or Atlanta.
