Perth is one of the fastest wickets in the world. It used to be pacers paradise. It used to be West Indies at Perth, WI win within 3 days. Andy Roberts demolished The Aussies there in 1975/76. Holding, Marshall and Garner almost killed them in 1984. Who can forget what Ambrose did to Australia at Perth in 1993, when in one spell he took 7 wickets for just one run?
WI bowling performance in this test is an F-. Four pacers. They are not that bad. Roach with 250 wickets, Josey is highly rated, Holder with a lot of experience. We can excuse Seales, as he is in experienced, but, to me, has been the best of the 4. Josey and Holder conceded more than 200 runs but no wicket. Roach just one wicket.
On paper, the WI bowling looks stronger than their batting. To win this match, the bowlers had to step up. WI batting is inexperienced, and Australia bowling is powerful. To put up 50 plus opening partnership in both innings against Cummins and Starc at Perth is quite an achievement. Chanderpaul knew he was going to be baptized by fire, but like a true warrior, a tiger, he countered the Aussies aggression. Good start to his career.
