1st ODI (D/N), Sydney, Nov 27 2020

10.04 pm: Some words from India's new vice-captain, KL Rahul :

"Something that I learnt from the IPL is to stay in the moment, stay in the present, and when I am batting

to think as a batter, and to assess the conditions and see how as a batter I can win the game for the team,"

Bit odd that, what? You would think he'd have learned all this way before IPL 2020, surely?

He's also said he'd love to keep wickets for the next three World Cups for India.

10.09 pm: "An even sort of pitch," says Mark Waugh.
"Good covering of grass, might be something in it up front for the fast bowlers," says Brendon Julian.

Both men reckon the slower bowlers will come into the game as it goes on, since the grass is not the shiny lush kind.

India is nowhere near the best in white ball cricket and Australia showed up their glaring weaknesses. England could have lost that T20 against South Africa but for their poor fielding coupled with that awful over by Hendricks. And Windies would have won that ODI against the Kiwis but for lack of bowling discipline. In effect a great team plays well in all areas and not being able to do so all at once has been Windies most consistent failure.
