Title: Minister Edghill Expressed Shock; Matthew’s Ridge in Region # 1 without electricity since March
(August 10, 2020) Honourable Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, was today visited by Brentnol Ashley, Chairman and Sarah Browne, Vice Chairman of Matthew's Ridge to discuss the matters emanating in Region One with specific emphasis on the supply of electricity.
During the brief meeting, Minister Edghill expressed shock in receiving the news that Matthew’s Ridge in Region One has been without electricity since March of 2020. Upon learning this, Minister Edghill posited, “notwithstanding the issues of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Ministry of Public Health safety guidelines, this matter should have already been resolved.” Further, Minister assured the Chairman and Vice Chairman that since they have made representation today, action will be taken to resolve the matter assiduously.
Additionally, Minister Edghill has instructed his team at the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc. to make contact with the engineers/mechanics on the ground to have the engines up and running immediately as he would like the people to regain their power supply tonight.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development says it has discovered some 56 persons who are on the payroll receiving about $13.5M overall per month since 2015 and no evidence or record of their work towards the Ministry. Minister Nigel Dharamlall revealed at a press briefing on Monday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre that ministerial advisors of the former APNU+AFC government are among these persons. Dharamlall further explained that since the new government was sworn in last week, these persons have not showed up to work.
