Ontario Premier Doug Ford expected to make a COVID-19 announcement

TORONTO -- Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to make an announcement Monday afternoon after a weekend in which the daily number of COVID-19 cases remained over 300.

The premier will be joined at Queen’s Park by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines and Minister of Indigenous Affairs, and Bill Walker, Associate Minister of Energy.

The announcement also comes after the Progressive Conservative government introduced a new fixed hydro rate.

Instead of a “time-of-use” billing system, Ontarians will pay a “COVID-19 recovery rate” of 12.8 cents per kilowatt hour at all times of the day.

The fixed price will be in place from June 1 to Oct. 31.
