Once again, the bitter Kashmir dispute endangers the rest of the world. The great powers should be pressing both India and Pakistan to reach a compromise on this problem. But India has long opposed internationalization of the issue, saying it is a domestic Indian matter. It is difficult to imagine the current Hindu nationalist government in Delhi backing down over Kashmir. But India must be very cautious because behind Pakistan stands its ally China which shares a long, often poorly-defined border with India. Kashmir, not Korea, is the world’s most dangerous border.
NEW DELHI — The Kashmir Valley, a disputed territory that has led to war between India and Pakistan in the past, is once again bringing the two archrivals to the brink.
In the past few days, hundreds of Kashmiris have been arrested, accused of fueling the insurgency against Indian rule. India has moved thousands of new troops into the valley, where they have taken up positions in towns, along the highways and in snow-dusted apple orchards.
Families are fleeing border areas. Fuel and food supplies are running out. Pakistan and India are firing artillery shells. An Indian government directive ordered doctors to “gear up their Rapid Response Teams” for “any untoward eventuality.” In Pakistan, the military has shifted to high alert.
Still thankfully low, most analysts say, because neither country really wants it. But both India and Pakistan are nuclear armed, and any escalation between them sends jitters around the world.

well if they are not talking after Imran asked for direct dialogue with Modi then I imagine there is every chance they will fight.
that was quite a shot India took there with so many soldiers getting killed in that attack. but Imran came out and said' " it is not us..we did not do it! we have now just emerged from a dark period in our history and such terrorism is not consistent with our interest as a nation. there is no benefit in it for us. there is nothing for us to gain by that. it is best that we talk about this to resolve the issue and to end terrorism in the region'

whatever it is if there is peace and prosperity they are bound to get it. Indians would have money to travel. And if India had then gone for a political settlement in Kashmir, by, for example, restoring part of the autonomy Kashmir enjoyed from 1948-53, the whole issue would have been long over. Instead, by doubling down on treating the state as a de facto colony, using human shields, blinding protestors with pellet guns, and such other charming behaviour, it alienated a whole new generation of Kashmiris, reignited the local rebellion, and did Pakistan’s mischief for it.
