Steve Bannon is gone from Breitbart News, the apparent result of the fallout over his inflammatory comments in the new Trump book. Breitbart announced the move Tuesday but did not provide a reason. Bannon had served as executive chairman of the right-wing news outlet since 2012. The New York Times reports that the move was forced by his onetime financial backer, Rebekah Mercer, who recently split with him. The departure comes after Bannon made disparaging remarks about the Trumps to author Michael Wolff in Fire and Fury. After Trump said Bannon had "lost his mind," Bannon tried to make amends with the White House, but to no avail.
