Guptill averages 29.59 in Tests, which drops to 20.68 in Asia.

He may be sensational in limited-overs cricket, but Tests and spin

have not been his best friends....

At this point in time, I feel sorry for the Kiwi fans. It seems both farcical and cruel to keep trotting Guptill out in Test matches. A brilliant limited over cricketer. Not a Test player.

It has to be pretty demoralizing for Jeet Raval to be left back at home, and watch Guptill continue to fail over and over.

Jeet should tRraval to India !  :-[

At the very minimum, I would bump Ronchi up to partner Latham at the top and have Nicholls replace Guptill. Nicholls is by all accounts a good player of spin.

Of course, it's still not too late for one of the touring squad to come down with a bad case of Delhi belly and fly Raval out as a replacement.

I read a few articles prior to the tour suggesting that NZ stuck with Guptill by default as they felt it would be unfair to put so much pressure on Raval to make his debut in the subcontinent. Rather interestingly, England have determined otherwise and have two uncapped openers in the touring squad for Bangladesh (and most likely India too).
